Located just outside the city of Sedona, many Indian ruins can be found in the cliffs and crevices amidst the Red Rocks. Over a thousand years ago, for some reason most inhabitants abandoned these sites and no one seems to know exactly why. Speculation is major droughts in the Southwest may have caused some of the abandonment. Up until the early 1990’s the Palatki Ruin was open to the public and visitors could walk through and among the remaining stones. But too many visitors and degradation to the sites by shortsighted individuals caused the shutdown and fencing of this ruins, so now it can only be seen from afar. This up close view was made with a 4″x5″ view camera and every detail of texture and ancient petroglyphs can be seen and studied.
