When Lou DeSerio made his first trip to Arizona, he was quite taken by the unique Saguaro Cactus and the abundant desert life, which compared to the desolation of the Nevada landscape. DeSerio was still shooting Black and White film almost exclusively and wanted to isolate a single Saguaro and portray its immensity, strength and domination of the low growing plants at the base of it.
